Engine Comparison
Please note that these comparisons are of a completely factory stock Animal LO 206 engine to a
completely blueprinted WKA flathead
Attached is a spreadsheet summarizing our 206 test sessions at Saltillo. Generally speaking it is my opinion that
all of the existing L-Head Classes have a 206 plate that is sufficiently close to allow them to compete in the same class on a
track similar to Saltillo. More specifically, the Black 206 seems to be about .2 faster than the Gold L head; The Gold 206
appears to be about even with the Blue L-Head; and the Blue 206 appears to be about .2 seconds slower than a Purple L-
Head. Variations in Track conditions, Driver, Chassis, gear, etc. make it almost impossible to quantify any closer without a
season of head to head competition.
In addition to the different plate combinations, you will notice that we also tested the long slide and the long slide cut .125
inches. The cut slide was close, but slightly faster than the Blue plate 206, and was actually very close to the Purple Plate
L-Head. The one problem we had, was that the throttle was so quick, that it was more difficult to drive. This could be made
better, by lowering the point that the throttle connects to the peddle. The setup that I was very impressed with was the
stock long slide. It was about 1 ½ -2 seconds slower, but the engine was very smooth, and it produced a much better and
safer speed for beginners. Yet it was fast enough to allow the drivers to develop a good line on the track. I was very
impressed, and only wish we could have a class based on this setup for the very young kids (5-8 year olds). The problem is
that it does not have an L-head equivalent, so everyone in that class would have to purchase new engines.
I think we have done what we set out to do at Saltillo. I am sharing this information with the Jackson, Ms. Track operators.
I would like to test there in the near future if possible. They have a race on the 17th, but I don’t think we will make it.
Saltillo has one more race on the 31st. Is there anything else that you would like to see us do? Any additional information
that we could provide? I would be glad to shares our experience with any of your other customers. Thanks.
